Thanks Cecil. I'm trying. It may take a little while. But I will get there.

Well I got a little more work done on the cub. I removed the rear tires, pulled to axles (which to my surprise looked really good). Pulled the axle tubes ( which were full of water That also surprised me. Not because it was in there but because I thought I had drained it all out). Had my helper with me while I was taking the tires off. Momma said it was time to come in. Have to get to bed early have a long day tomorrow.

Your thread title is a complete understatement.

You're doing well so far and I wish you continued good luck

Well. I tore down the rest of the transmission. The needle bearing that the main shaft rides on is toast and gouged the shaft. I wonder if I can mill that down and run a little bit bigger bearing. Maybe that would be easier then trying to find a new shaft. I'm thinking that I should go ahead and replace all of the bearings. They are 50 years old. Definitely wouldn't hurt. Let me know what you guys think.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
