Todd,
Trying to get caught up! Good pictures of the clean up. I know you have another red and white project that is probably on your mind a lot too.
This Cub did need some attention. I need to get back on one of these at some point. We have a big IH show local this summer. I am going to wash the dust off some items for the show.
Regards,
Chris

Man, the deeper I get into this turd, the worst it stinks... Pictures tell the story I suppose.
Drained the rear, then removed the diff today, and as you can see the thing wasn't only bolted to the frame, there were nuts on the inside.
One of the front mounts is broke. I wonder why the rear cover was leaking. On, and on, never a dull moment on this one.

PO mods like that make me mad, but he prolly stripped out the threads on the housing and added the nuts. What are you going to do now?

Todd

I noticed a bolt in the rock shaft. As far as the broken front mount on the trans, you can get around that with a set of GT rear end braces. The case with the nut on the inside can be heli coiled or just go to a 7/16" or 1/2" bolt depending on how bad it is. Question is, is it worth the effort and $$$?

I guess you could say the PO or his mechanic was just working with what he had. No telling how long it ran that way. At least it ain't a paying job. You gonna source replacement parts or repair and reinforce what you have? Don't get discouraged. Right now you have most of OCC anxiously awaiting for your next move.

so we don't really need the gt case braces, we just need to nut them up on the inside! who knew!

Yeah, I hear you Lew. "what are you going to do now", That's a good question. Get it up on the table and check out the treads, and the front mount, then sit back and think about it a little.

Yup, noticed the bolt when I pressure washed it. The braces are an option...
There were three of the four bolts with nuts on them. The bolts did/were still attached with the threads, but I'm not thinking very well. "Is it worth the effort and $$$?" Prolly not if I was going to sell it to make a dollar, but it ain't going anywhere.
So I "need" to fix it. It's a pride thing I guess, to not give up on something I started. See it through to the end. Maybe foolish thinking, but that's me.

(Laughing) Really haven't figured out what to do John. It's gonna get fixed, and put back into service, just haven't surveyed the situation far enough yet to know what to do.
It's most definitely the worst one I drug home...

You got this Todd. No problem too great for the master!
I would be pretty temped to look for another rear housing, then put rear braces on.
In defense of the PO, at least he used lock nuts on the inside!
There was a guy on here that said "They can't all be turn key" I don't recall who that was offhand...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
