Cool

Okay, got it running the other day.It was hard to start like the ACR was not working, ran like crap, leaky head gasket, drippy carb, wouldn't move when I pushed the go go lever.
Took it apart yesterday.Figure I would adjust the valves while I had the carb off.Someone was in there, assembled the breather upside down.
Adjusted valves.Still has a STD piston in it.No scratches in the bore but the piston is eaten away slightly, towards the ex valve.Looks like a rebuild in the future.
Took out the hydro relief valves, got them little teats to move up and down.
Then after rebuilding the carb and putting a new head gasket on.It started easier and it ran better, took it for a spin,no creep in the hydro. No knocks or blue smoke, but black smoke on throttle up,must have missed something on the rebuild...
I just needed to get it running to see how the tranny hydro lift, and the charging system work and it is fine. Now I will retorque the head, then drain the gas out of the carb and tank and store it away for another day.

Glad to hear you got her running Lew. Sounds like a nice old 169 in the end.

I used to have an 86 that the PO put the breather together wrong and the reed valve wasn't opening. Built up enough pressure in the crankcase to blow out both crank seals. Fairly quick fix once I found out what they did.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
