I'd change the filter first. I had it happen that there was something happen to the filter in manufacturing and it did that.

Ok, I got it on jack stands and removed the suction line and blew it out with the compressor. I didn't see anything come out. Then reinstalled it, after that I was able to go forward and reverse for around five minutes or so at low throttle. When I gave it more throttle, it wouldn't go forward or reverse, put the throttle back down and it worked. Then the shear pin that holds the flywheel in place broke free (unrelated) and disengaged it from the shaft, so I couldn't try it anymore. Now I'll have to fix that as well. It seemed to move fine until throttling up though so. Maybe there was something in the suction tube but don't know why it won't work when it was higher rpm.

Not sure if you mean the flywheel or the driver hub.... Flywheel has a key, hub has a pin. Interesting that it broke. Pump bind up??? A hydro is kinda like an engine in terms of lube. If it isn't moving, or won't prime, which sounds like what is going on, it has no lube. Hope it didn't lock up. I really suggest trying a new filter. You can get them from NAPA or anywhere they sell Wix filters. Napa number 1410, all other stores 51410. $11.49 at O'Reilly's.

If the filter doesn't work, pull the rear end. Charge pump may have lost the woodruff key/pin that drives it. Or it may just be wore out. Could even be that something made if past the filter, and into the pump and valves. I would say put a gauge on the charge port, but I'm pretty sure it isn't picking up oil. Sam's suggestion of slightly pressurizing the case might work, but it really sounds like something more is going on. Try a new filter, and report back. If you need a little help on understanding how the hydro works read this...... Hydrostats: How they work.

I'm sorry I meant the driver hub. I'm stuck at getting the locking collar off behind the clutch bearing right now. Had it soaking all night in some lube so I'll see what it does today. I gave it some hard smacks counter clockwise it doesn't won't to budge at all.

That is your starter generator pulley/PTO clutch basket. Nothing to do with other problem. Unless your hydro is locked up and starter sheared the key.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
