Made some progress on the 70. It seems to be a uphill battle. I am TRYING to stay optimistic but there are times of frustration. I found the frame on ebay and called the guy. He told me he wouldn't ship it. he only wanted 15 bucks for the frame. He said the only way he would ship would be to strap it to a pallet and that would be too expensive. I think i will get some C channel and make a new one. Anyways I have some pictures for ya'll!

I drained the fluid out of the transmission and that was depressing. Check these out.

So..... I started cleaning up some parts. I still have a long way to go. I'm not giving up. I noticed that the center shaft that runs through the transmission. it looks like either the bearing or bushing that it rides on is toast. Is that pressed in?

Man, I've been viewing this thread and all I can say is you are way more devoted to saving an old Cub than I am. This is going to be a tough one. Can you do it sure but don't add up the cost. Good luck on it. No I am not saying don't do it just don't ever think you will get your $$$ back if you want to sell it.

I have no intention of selling this thing for that very reason. I wouldn't be doing half the work to this thing if it didn't mean as much to me as it does. I appreciate the support Sam!

That frame looks like it has possible structural damage due to rust. With ground engaging equipment, you run a risk of mangling the whole works. If a guy were to remove the foot clutch, one can make a shipping delivery box similar to what I have my frame stored in. Perhaps that can work toward the goal of a good frame. Basically, you would be looking at shipping cost, and say 40 bucks or the frame and the time to get it shipped?
Your doing great, keep a eye out for a frame. The reduction housing cover plate gasket is # IH 384725-R2, and the cost of that is about $6.50 .

Sweet. Thanks John! I will keep an eye out for a replacement frame if I don't get impatient and build one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
