If you look at the picture you attached with this quote, you'll see a stack of washers spacing the bar out to clear the brinly spring assist. That will make the bolt head contact the frame and you will lose full range of motion. |

Nick I would fix that battery cable first. It is very close to the bare metal on the dash tower.
I would put it on the same side as the nut is....

The washers should be removed. How IHC designed this was a spacer that was slightly thicker than the bar thickness. That way a washer went on the outside of the bar and the bolt was tightened. This allowed the bar to freely pivot while the bolt was tight.
I had a brinly spring assist on my 122 and it worked as designed. I also had a IH spring assist on too ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
