finally put her through some paces...my friend plowed up a section for us at his property....his full-size tractor/plows left hugh clods.i honestly didn't think the cub would make it. I tell ya..the wife and I were surprised by how big the balls are on this thing...it just kept going. The front wheels looked covered in cake batter, but the tractor just kept biting and going..

Used the drag harrow I just picked up and it make quick work of the clumps. If the rain ever stops, going to use the shovel plow to dig furrows and drop the seeds in...

This is a neat thread! I like 1650s. Yours looks great, especially in the dirt.

got the seeds in with my son and 2 of his friends (its more of a learning experiment for them..anything grown is a bonus)...some hairy moments when he and another 7 year old were driving...I think the plowing, uneven ground, adding more power, and going straight was a little to much for them the furrows were all over the place..the 10 year old did fine

so for some reason, I just hate belly mowers...they just look so lawn tractor-ish, and to me are a pain to connect....so..i made a mini brush/bush hog...

scored a free craftsman mower with a 6 hp briggs......
cut the deck up, welded it down...
welded reinforcements, and an attachment point....
bolted a pulley from tractor supply to where the blade should have gone....

this was a proof of concept low budget build (no tension pulleys..just straight belt...these mowers are always cheap on craigslist...so..

thoughts...I thought it wouldn't really cut...surprisingly..it did really well..i mean better than I expected...

keeping the cub barely above idle and cruising it cut knee high grass with no problem...raising it with the sleeve hitch was super sweet as the grass got higher..raise it to the limit..for a finished look a second pass lower..(that's for knee high)....with a more hp engine, it would be great..but then you get into harvesting a lawn tractor engine/elec start...

Dude , That mower setup is cool lookin' !!! Glad to see it worked good.

You really should run your tractor at WOT to help cool the engine and slow it down with the hydrostat.

Do you have any pics of the mower build ???

good to know tip (as far as hydro heat).....thanks..im still a newb...as far as a build,it was just-
cut off the front lift brackets and roller from deck
cut ends off scrap mower
place deck remnant in line with pulley
weld
weld reinforcements
find pulley to go on end of crank (tractor supply)
drop engine onto deck
look at pulley alignment (mine was spot on(up and down wise), but you could use washers as spacers to raise if necessary..if you have to lower it?...should have cut the scrap deck to appropriate height
elongate engine to deck holes (oval/Tylenol shape for forward/back adjustment of belt tensions)
measure for belt and buy it
put belt on,grab crank to get tight and tighten bolts (engine to deck)
fab a mounting bracket that will work for your tractor
grease big deck and fire it up

things to remember...if you hit something big, depending on what you hit it will stop the motor (mine did 2x's) or possibly strip the key, mess up timing,etc...the good thing is these cheapie mowers are plentiful..my friend gave me this one, and it wound up needing $30 in parts/shipping...I could've gotten a running one off craigslist for that (ballpark)

if I ever redo it..i would build a square box with multiple mounting holes for all sorts of engines and simply make them replacable......it would look better than the bubba deck welding

a lawn tractor engine would be better, but then adding a battery, etc would get heavier....and necessitate front wheels?

fun project though

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
