what year is you 125. Im told , in 67 the engine was a little diffent. in 67 the head bolts have studs on top with 1/2'' spacers that the tins set on. and the heat shield has a bend in it. pre 67 the shield was square.
I have another 125 with the studs and spacers (no pic of the engine)
I can get pis of it , if needed.
pic of 2 diffrent heat shields

Thanks Doug. I'm really confused now. Between you and Lew I don't know what I have.
I believe that the tractor is a 1969, and the engine number is D06(either a 6-5-8) 279. So am I correct in assuming the engine is a 68?
Here's a couple pictures of what I got. Thanks for any assistance.

Cool

Todd,
Here is my 125 with the same tins that you have.

There are no studs, just bolts holding the head down. The tin, heat shield, and tank bracket are held on that way.

The head is not a low boss like yours.

The other picture is the 107 that I am swapping out the smokey 10 hp with a good one.

This has a head like yours, washer, nut, spacer, and then jam nuts hold on the tank and the heat shield.
So either you find tins like on my 107 and use bolts and studs,or find a high boss head and use the tins you have. You will need the heat shield too.It also helps support the muffler. The heat shield Doug posted will work also.

There are different locations on these heads for the spark plug.Be sure to get the tins that have the holes in the same spot as yours.

Clear as chocolate?

Finally got back on project 125.
Been a slacker for to long, lately it's been snow removal along with other things that are out of my control........ so on we go.
Yesterday I got to put my torch to the test, or more so, my ability to use it. I couldn't get the exhaust pipe out of the engine, rusted so so bad. I tried the PB for weeks at a time, then put the pipe wrench on it, with no luck. Talked with my dealer buddy and said to heat the pipe till it's red hot and let it cool. Then put the pipe wrench on and it will come right out. It worked! What he told me, was by letting it cool completely I wouldn't hurt the threads in the engine, works for me.
Also need to do some work to the pto clutch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
