Picked up an exhaust elbow from a local guy today. He had a parts engine out of a 1450. It only took a little heat to free it up. I should be able to get the exhaust system installed now.

I decided it was time to find out why the rear end is leaking around a couple of the rear cover bolts. This is what I expected, but didn't want to find. Anyway , it gives me an excuse to try out some new wire in the MIG welder thats for cast iron. I also found why this happened. PO had 2 shouldered bolts in those holes. Looks like the shoulder got to the casting and split it.

Under load it should run it at full throttle even if it don't seem to need it.

Started prepping for the weld. When I started to v out for the weld the whole side of the bolt boss fell out. I was worried that I couldn't find the small piece that had broke out of the upper hole, but on inspection I found two small pieces stuck to the rear cover gasket.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
