I'm ready to power-up. Disassembeled, cleaned, inspected, painted and put back together. I still have to paint the tins.

Putting a Briggs V twin in these is easy. It's all bolt in. My 1210 now has a 16hp Briggs out of a 2160. used the muffler from a 1640 and the motor plate from a 1440.

A couple pics of what my re-power looks like. It has the complete driveline out of a 1440 so this one is a total bolt in swap. You may need to play with the drive shaft but no big deal. Like I said the engine came from a 300 hour 2160 complete with the drive shaft adapter and the PTO cost me $300 for the tractor. The 1641 muffler came from Patton, cool guy. The 1440 was a swap for a plow I had so for me it was cheap deal. If 16HP is enough power look around for a 2160 on C list. They go cheap because the transmissons are junk. Hope this is of some help.

Gary, It was good to meet you and your son today. I hope looking at my 18hp B&S engine swap helped you out.

It'll be back apart in 2 months if you need better pics.

Default Repower

Thanks Doug, We got some good ideas from looking at your 582. It seems the biggest issue is we're going to have to find or fab a flywheel coupler to connect the driveshaft. All else seems pretty straight forward. We pulled the screen off the flywheel when we got home and it looks very doable. I hope to have it swapped before 2 months but thanks for letting me know. Sure glad to have met you, maybe see you at plow day sometime.

Gary

The adapter is Cub part # 719-3096 you also need pin # 711-3330 and two 5/16 X 1 3/4" bolts. This is for a Cub 2160 from the Cub parts web site. The Cub parts are about $38.00 & shipping

Default Adapter

Thanks Sam, I checked it out and that looks possible. Although the driveshaft end is not the same on a 782, it looks like the adapter could be made to fit. And if not the picture gives me some idea of what the part looks like if we decide to fab one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
