Yea,
I get some grief at times.. I spent $425 for a 1650 plus had to travel to get it .. so you can probably double that. All the tune up stuff and little things.. maybe another $150. But I would have spent $2,000 + at the box store on a new one. This has more smile factor.. love the old cub even if it's a gas- hog. Wife says there's nothing like the smile when me and the kids come in from driving/ridding on the cub. Michael |

Yes The smile factor. The grand kids and I took one of the cubs and a wheel horse tractor for some rides in the fields and probably had as much fun on $200 worth of tractors as brand new four wheelers. The cubs do a lot of work around our property and since I don't own a four wheeler or a snowmobile I get a lot of but time on them. I would not be happy with and new sears lawn mower at $2000.
Regards, Chris

Put in about 2.5 hours prepping the frame tonight using the little B&D Mouse sander and some hand sanding. I'm hoping I can shoot some primer and then paint on the frame, as well as the front and rear ends in the next few days so I can get the rolling chassis back together before winter. Our window of warm weather is closing.

Question: My K341's carb had that 1/8" think plastic spacer between the carb and the block.
The dealer says you can't order them anymore, and so I've got old gasket material stuck on both sides of it and I don't want to go at it with a razor blade because I'll probably cut into the plastic. I figure I'll soak it in something. Mineral spirits maybe? I had to buy another gasket since the spacer makes me need two and the rebuild set only came with one. The dealer also didn't seem to think the K341 was supposed to have that piece. What's the chance it was a PO mod, and if so why... |

I have not seen a CC spec K-series that didn't have that spacer. You would probably have a lot of vapor lock problems without it.

OK, so it stays...my K321 also has it, so I was pretty sure it had to stay.
Why isn't it in the exploded diagrams anyway? What have you guys used to remove the old gasket material from it? I'm assuming it needs two gaskets, right? |

I wound up soaking that spacer in mineral spirits, and it didn't really seem to help. So I went at it gently with a razor blade, and then I worked on it with WD40 and a scrubbing pad.
Then it occurred to me that I had a scrubbing pad that mounts to my little Mouse sander, so I put that on and cleaned the disc up quite nicely: |

Now, I need some help with my Electric PTO.
The manual says there should be a .060 to .090 gap between the driven disc (2) and the driving hub (3). Mine is uneven, like the driven disc is bent or something. It's obvious even to look at it. The two pics were taken by rotating the driven disc and taking photos of two sides: So that's the first problem. Then the manual says to put it all together, and then measure the same gap to get .010" and adjust by tightening the nuts on the brake flange: ![]() I totally don't get that. Isn't that the same gap I just measured @ .060 to .090? And how is it going to change by tightening the nuts on the brake flange? Maybe I'm just getting tired... |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
