So do the new decks plug up or all is well with them?
Steve,

I have had no plugging up issues with my 54 inch fab deck. In long grass I do get a good amount that sits on top of the deck but has not caused any issues so far.

Rowbow,

The XT3 is identical to the GT 2000/2100 aside from the locking differential. Google Cub Cadet GT 2100 and a site will come up called Tractordata.com. You can find more information in there. For some reason, it lacks this information with regards to the XT3.

But a 60" fab deck backed by a Kohler 25 hp Command v-twin, shaft drive, cast iron trans, would kill a 318 mowing, and in power that its not even a fair comparison to the great JD 318. Besides, what garden tractor manufacture produces all those options a 318 has anyway?

The JD is truly a remarkable piece. But I'm more interested in this new Cub Cadet XT3!
I just did a quick inflation calculator on the JD 318 ($5000 when new in 1983) and the retail price at the time is roughly equivalent to over $12,000 today. Very similar to the X700 Series. By all measures puts that tractor in the subcompact class with the features it offers. I like the XT3 for the price point, features etc and it sure fits my homeowner's needs without a doubt. If I find out I need a backhoe, bucket, PTO, I'll need to spend another 6K.

I have found this a very interesting thread to read. No real bashing and put downs because someone wants a new machine. I belong to the group that does not like to spend money on new and have never owned a new car, truck or a new Cub Cadet. I have no issue with any body wanting new and congratulate them if they get what they want. I have had many Cubs from a 70 up to a couple of 1872's. I like the older machines but if I have to spend much time on one I would rather use my 1872 I rebuilt and re powered last year. It has many of the features of the new ones and is a very good machine for my needs. To the OP congrats on your XT3, I hope you get many years of good use from it.

The foot control is what I like the most on "Modern" machine, if CC can add that +a EFI engine +hydraulic control and a SGT size (XT4?) to their line, I will consider getting one with a dozer blade for my snow removal task. Until then I pick my 2072 with his 54" hydraulic angled dozer blade over anything they have to offer today because it's the most "Badass" snow crusher in my stable.

The XT3 is very capable machine but can't replace a SGT, only a SCUT or a top of the line Simplicity can so does he worth his $5000 price tag? "Yes" because you need to spend twice more to get a more capable machine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
