Default Update:

I had some surgery on one of my legs which has slowed me down some but I got a couple hours to work on this beast. I did an oil change then I installed the "cleaned out as good as I can get it" tank, some new fuel line and a cheapie in line sacrifical filter ahead of the sediment bowl, and got it fired up.

It's fun to see something that hasn't run in years (decades?) making noise and heat again.

Clutch disk is stuck , so no cruising with it yet . Fun stuff! I'll get some pics!

IT LIVES

I got the clutch unfrozen and got it motoring around the yard and down to the street and back. There's puff of smoke when I start it, but no oil smoke when I load it down heavy (up hills in 2nd with the brake applied gently). I think the PO burned up the wiring before wearing out the engine .

It looks better than it did to begin with but not by much :-)

Brakes work fine, clutch is good, engine is good. I need to rewire the headlights and, well... the rest of it is still junk.

But it's RUNNING junk!

How do you apply the brake while the tractor is moving on a single pedal system......

You can't.....

Go find somewhere else to play with Jon. (You're a persistant troll, I have to say)

While it's clear you think you know everything, you don't.

I've asked you in multiple PMs to STF out of my threads. I've asked the mods to ask this of you too.

You got booted as a moderator for this type of behavior. A normal person would get a clue, but not you.

If you were here, I'd show you in person, troll.
And you are a persistent whiny ass. Like a little kindergarten girl. Instead of being a whiner, just man up and answer the damn question. I might learn something.

A lot of people always say "the engine doesn't smoke under load"..... that's because under heavy load, cylinder temps increase and the oil burns more completely. A worn out engine will smoke while continued idling, and light loads, but go away under heavy loads.

There. Maybe you learned something now.

That's a simple offer of good advice you shared, Jon. It has merit. No need to take a positive and turn it into a negative. I had recently got my 1211 started after the 4 known years since I had it, that it never ran. I drained the engine oil and about fell over when I seen how thick the oil was - just was not right at all! Looked fine on the stick, but that sight test don't always reveal a needed oil change. But sometimes, you don't know if an engine is worth an oil change until you get it running, that's why I sometimes save good engine oil that I change out early from anyone of my tractors.

I can think of much more from other members here that often have no merit in their comments at all. We ought not make it a point to rattle cages.

I've enjoyed this thread, keep it going!

Thanks John!

I've drained that twice now (the oil that was in when I got it must have been recently changed by the PO who never got it running) I drained the oil put in new, let it run some till it heated well, then drained and replaced it again. I'm GTG for a while

I'm pretty happy with getting a junker back to life again.

That clutch assembly was really frozen on there tight. I spent about 30 min with a putty knife getting the disks free-er. I then started the thing in gear and loaded it down pretty good (till gently pushing thru the clutch and into the brakes) and it came free. After oiling the clutch shaft the clutch runs smoothly. Especially for a tractor that's sat out in the rain rusting for a decade or so. :-)

I've got a 108 I need to free up too. A putty knife with all the edges "blended" so there's no sharp edges to snag worked well.

I'll do the diff when I next work on it. The 782D did lawn chores today!

I'm a sucker for lost causes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
