Items that I see that need attention so far are, pull the fender pan, clean and replace the tank grommets, replace all the fuel lines, pull the rear and replace all the seals and gaskets, pull the PTO and replace the bearings, fix the PTO stop (it's bent) no idea how they managed that. Probably pull the engine, clean and repack the steering CV joint, rewire the whole tractor. New cooling hoses, have the radiator cleaned, install gauges, fix the sloppy trans linkage, new oil and filters all around. This should make a good start on the to do list for the tractor then I have the deck to deal with. Oh yeah let's not forget some paint work. Sure I'll find more stuff to do. Glad I've had plenty of practice on these critters.

Sam, I got a PTO clutch from a friend at work off of a 2182 that spun when the bearings locked up and ripped the wire connector off of it. The field assembly was bent up pretty bad. I straightened it and welded some 1/8" flat bar on it where it contacts the torque bar assembly for a larger contact area and to strengthen the field coil due to possible metal fatigue. Sorry no pics, on vacation. P.S. I'm in North Carolina and was going to check that tractor out on my way home if it was still available. Congrats on the new machine.

Pretty sure that's what happened to this one at some time in it's life. The wires have butt connectors on them close to the field coil. We have the technology to make it better.

This one is going to take more than a couple days. More like a couple months. With winter coming and no heat in the shop plan is to get it cleaned up good then put it away till spring. Still want to finish the deck for the O first.

Mick
If I could get one of those deals going it would fund a few projects. Those shows are a riot.

Got some quality shop time today. Pulled the fender pan, gas tank and support then it was introduced to the pressure washer. I couple before and after pics. The check valves are both leaking along with the axle seals. Pretty standard considering the age and hours. It has been re painted at some point in its life, crappy job. Oh well it will be a worker anyway.

Jeez, so much dirt and crud...neglect right there. No matter how many times I clean one or see pics of one like that, it never ceases to make me shake my head. Always nice to see progress made on these machines, good work Sam, looks like she'll be a worker in tip top shape in no time

It never ceases to amaze me how people can take something that they spent well over $10,000 and let it go to H--L. Oh well guess that why guys like us get Lew deals. The wiring harness must have at least a dozen butt connectors in it and I can't find a fuse anyplace. Bearings in the PTO are toast. Got it off so that needs to be dealt with, plan on just replacing the bearings rather than the whole PTO. Once I pull the trans and engine then it will get a serious cleaning and some paint work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
