I had a mouse do that to the Wheel Horse. Also ate the wire.

Well I'm moving slowly. Took the battery tray out and removed the two hyd lift lines to repair the one.

I went to NAPA and bought a 12" pre-made 3/8" brake line with the fitting and flared ends. Then I bought two unions and two fittings.

I used a v-belt pulley in a vise to bent the 90 in the pre-made line. Worked perfect. I just randomly picked a pulley size that looked right and the bend came out exact. Lucky although not that critical.

Laid the old line on the table and drew a profile on the table with a marker so I would have the memory. Cut the line a couple places making sure to accommodate the union fitting which used about 3/8" on each end.

Sanded the light rust off the worst parts of the lines.

Did my first ever double flares. Came out good.

Painted them with self etching primer and top coated with pickup truck bed paint.

Cleaned the battery tray up and sprayed it with rust converter black.

Back at it tomorrow to get the lines back in and check out if this machine rolls.

Great progress made today. I feel much more confident now about the initial purchase ($160). Add battery and hyd fittings adds another $60.

Here is the first run...

Since it has a red blower housing I'm guessing someone replaced the engine. The blower housing on a 1641 should be Black. You may have the bargain of the century.

Yea Sam I noticed that the engine was red and looked newer but since I don't have a lot of experience with what they came with originally it was just a head scratcher. It does have some grime build up so obviously not brand spankin new but she does purr like a new motor.

Also the new key switch seems to have restored the dash light functionality and the fuel solenoid is working. Only thing electrically not working now is the start function.

Question... does the throttle cable mount on the right or left side of the engine when sitting in the seat. Right now it's on the left but I saw a youtube with it on the right.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
