the way you describe. It will work fine although it is a lot of shuffling.
And your heated side will be smelly as I.M. says but not for long.
The dead of winter here is, well lets take the next week as a sample.
5 day high is supposed to be 0. UGH

We wrecked the exhaust elbow during removal thinking it would be easy to get a new one from Menards. Well, I didn’t find any at Menards nor was the associate of any help. There’s a couple on eBay, but they are slightly different… They should work I guess. Is mine incorrect? I can’t find one like mine on the web for a Kohler.

That pricing is ridiculous IMO. We were careless during removal because we thought it would be super easy to get a brand new elbow from Menards or something.
