Plus for only $35 it is not worth my time to reassemble it IMO(unless you like that part of the job).

Yeah, I've long been of that philosophy myself (easier and cheaper time-wise to have it done.) But at present, I place higher value on my return to mechanics and the challenges it presents, so yep, it's "that part of the job" that I value.

I'm waiting on a few parts to come in before I can complete the engine rebuild. Need more shims for the camshaft and a carb high-speed needle. I hate when I have to stop and wait for parts in the middle of a job...
Anyway, in the meantime I thought I'd show where I am on the color scheme. I took the advice of a few of you and added some white to the decals. I really like it. I've also improved my image editing skills. The first one is where I was a while back, and the second one integrates the white lettering and you can see that the colors have a better shine to them. ![]() ![]() I haven't committed to a scheme yet, but I have committed to yellow and black. The paint is in my garage. |

I love your work. You are very meticulous. It will be a nice looking 1650. At first I was thinking it sholud have an original paint scheme but on second thought yours will be different. Your young son will also have a cool tractor to maybe hand down to his little boy. I also have a 1650 to restore. I have 3 kids. My 9 yr old boy wants my 1450. My 6 yr old boy wants my 1250 and my 4 yr old daughter wants my 1650. I will be left with my 1200. I love these old QL's.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
