Yep. Could be either a D600 or D640. That's why I asked, just curious. Guys seem to like and search for the D640's more. And the radiator is larger on 1772's as well.

Tom,
She'll be a nice machine when you're done. The starter/glow plug updates will make a world of difference with cold starting. I don't have block heaters in any of mine and they start fine in an insulated garage without the heat turned on. And on the rearend fill up issues, I take a larger funnel, and instead of sticking it down into the opening, hold the funnel offset with half over the hole. The hytran runs down one side while air escapes. I tried the tube but this works just as well for me. Keep the pics coming.

Here are the pics of the driveshaft adapter. The swivel O-ring thingy is worn enough to slip out of the housing, and I've got a bolt head worn down pretty good. The rubber flex discs look ok - no stress cracks or tears. The other end of the driveshaft looks perfect.

Guess I should probably replace the lower radiator hose while the motor is out

Would be nice, but I believe both hoses are NLA.

take it to the parts store and match it up to something, might have to shorten one end but no reason it won't work.

that driveshaft adaptor is like 97 dollars from cub. you can replace the ball bushing in it McMaster Carr sells them but there is a minimum order. someone on here might have some spares if you can find them they can be had for 15 bucks or less. or you can replace the adaptor i happen to have one slightly used. my 782D when i got it the people said the adaptor failed so they replaced it the rag joint and the shaft days before i got the tractor im never gonna use it if you want it i would like 50 dollars shipped. not in a hurry to get rid of just throwing it out there would be cheaper to find the bushing balls

Yep,
Both hoses are NLA. IIRC, Todd Markle did a write up in Red Power Magazine on replacing the upper hose. A little ingenuity goes a long way. Even though the rag joints look good, I'd replace them Tom. They are fairly cheap and the newer ones from Cub Cadet are thicker. Easier to do now since it's apart. Also check over the water pump/alternator belt. Now's a good time to replace that, too. These little diesels are nice tractors with proper maintenance and a little TLC. Just ask Todd, LOL.

I've got a brand-new upper hose with the insulation on stand-by. It came in the box of goodies that I got with the 882 (NOS dash, NOS Exhaust, foot rests, upper hose). Bummer about the lower hose. And I'd be hesitant to try and match up a different hose or even cobble two separate hoses together with all of the twists and bends and possible pinch points that the lower hose is exposed to. I'll clean off that spot on the hose and see if it's just grease or oil from something else. maybe I can bandage that spot before it goes back in the tractor.

I finally was able to get the wash party started. Any guesses on what the step ladder is for?

Still dirty, but not for long:

Much better! Still have to wipe everything down...

Love the 4-way spool valve!

Zero trunnion wear

I ordered the 4 tank bungs and drained the rest of the fuel out to prepare for a rinse job this weekend. I received the driveshaft adapter from Randy (thank you!) and I'll try to get out and get cap screws for the flex discs on the motor end and pick up a spool of fuel line. Also have the input shaft seal to replace. More updates as they happen!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
