thanks for stopping me from connecting it that way Jonathan-that would have been something to see!!

I will try to post a pic, the terminal on the backside is not labeled at all tho.
the 3 on the one side of the NEW vr are "F" "BAT" and "L"

MY old VR had 4 wires. one for "ground" (on the back)
one "gen" "bat" and "f"

The one on the back is the new "G" terminal. Seen this many times. Do not use the "L" terminal. Base is supposed to be grounded already. I believe it has a strap, either braided or it looks like a small wire. You are the second person today I've helped with the same problem. Other guy was on FB.

Yeah...... and mainly all I do is watch news feeds about politics (I watch that stuff pretty close) and cub cadets. Don't worry, I push OCC on there as much as I can.

Default rebooting 108 quit charging with generator question

this thread has a pretty good sequential chain of diagnosis tips. and its got the right title.

so i had a bad voltage regulator and replaced. it charged for maybe 6 months and then stopped. of course i hadn't committed the charging circuit to memory and I had put a cigarette lighter tap at the battery to run a sprayer i towed behind, so i put a cigarette plug on a harbor freight charger and just been running it that way for a couple years, like a plug in hybrid so to speak.

just had to tear it down to fix leaking head gasket and got into the while you're there department. so the field wire is showing continuity to ground but i pulled it and made a ground jumper from the field terminal and still no charge. a tiny bit of voltage pops up when i ground the field terminal, 1/4 or 1/3 volt.

generic generator testing procedure says check the brushes and polarity although the thing runs perfectly fine as the starter when i engage the solenoid so i'm thinking that can't be the problem. just about to pull the generator and take it to the armature shop but thought i'd crowdsource my logic.

thanks,

brian

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
