I have one that is off centerline like this. Its quite a bit off center (similar to your first pics). But of the three I own, its the smoothest moving hydro linkage so have been wondering if I should try to get it more centered (its apart at the moment). This balance between 'if it aint broke dont fix it', and 'take care of it while its apart'.

How well centered is yours now that its back together?

Time for an update!

Over the winter I built the engine. It really only took a few evenings so it was more like I built the engine and then stared at it for 4 months. :-)

I dropped it in on Sunday:

I spent last night bolting all the stuff back on:

Pretty much I need to drop the fenders back on, drop the battery in, add oil & gas and hope everything works!

Nice work on the 129! Going to be a good machine. Hard to beat that 12 horse. They are just about BULLET PROOF!
Good pictures!
Regards,
Chris

Nice job taping off all the engine decals and paint looks good. I haven't seen the thread in a while, I like the trunion repair too, good work

DONE!

Well, not done, they never really are they? How about usable? Paint would be nice, maybe next year.

Here's a YouTube Video:

https://youtu.be/8RCO6Sqohuw

Question though. The clutch rattles like a son of a gun at idle. You can hear it at the end of the video. It doesn't have anti-rattle springs, would that solve the problem?

Also, the hood touches the muffler (more noise). You can see where the muffler has worn the hood a tiny bit so it's been doing it for a long time. I've tried adjusting the muffler with out any luck. Move the outlet would do it but it didn't want to budget. Any other ideas?

Other then the clanking of the clutch it runs really well. Starts super easy, idles right down and the throttle response is better then any CC I've owned. I did have to mess with the low speed jet a lot to find it's sweet spot but the high speed was pretty much dead on at the initial 2 turns out.

I mowed my lawn with the old girl last night to shake out any bugs before I sent it on to my sister. Other then the 32" deck (I run a Kubota Z-Turn with a 60" deck now) I had no complaints.

If i remember right , there is a spacer between the muffler mount and metal heat shield ?? If not , maybe that would work.

Are you sure it is the clutch disc rattling ?? If you missed them , alot of the time the throwout bearing arm or the hanger for the arm ( or both ) have wallowed out holes and causes vibration noise. Maybe ??

Nice Ride !!!!

Congrats on a nice build
Glad everything turned out good. I was reading through the thread and on post 23# I see the breather reed laying on the table next to the engine, and thought, oh-no. But you must of replaced it......

Ah! I have the spacer on the wrong side! I thought it was a washer, DUH...

Re: Through out arm, it could very well be. I haven't spent to much time hunting yet. Throttle up a tad and it goes away. It's not engine noise...that's the important part!

All of the guts of the breather assembly are out in that picture. I just put the cover on while the bits were soaking in parts cleaner. It all made it back in before I dropped the engine in the tractor.

Good eye though!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
