I'd fix the lights, roll with no plates, and take your trailer paperwork with you and hope you have an understanding cop *IF* you get popped. Take back roads and you shouldn't have any hassle at all.

From experience in Indiana with a "lost title" (not lost, but the PO screwed it up so bad that's what I had to do) it took about 4 months and $70 of registered letters to get a title and plate for a car I once bought. It was a huge PITA. I'd sell the trailer and skip the money/hassle.

---------

To answer what you asked, I seriously doubt it will fit sideways without damaging your truck, or paining your rump, in ways that would quickly make it not worth it. A WF fits "normal" in the 6' bed of an S-10 with a few inches to spare. I just don't see it happening sideways in a fullsize.

Rent a u-haul trailer for a day if you need to. 4x7 utility trailer is $15 for 1 day. You can just barely buy HF magnetic lights for $15 and I can't think of a single body repair you can perform to a vehicle correctly, or traffic ticket, that is going to cost $15.

Illinois is a huge pain in the rear for lost titles or screwed up titles. You COULD get a home made trailer title for it but more then likely they will send a state trooper to inspect it first. And still a waiting game. My brother who is a cop said the fine is less with no plate rather then the wrong plate. I would suggest calling state police and discussing your options

Sounds like a crap shoot then: run with no plate, and have a higher risk of getting pulled over with a lesser fine. Run with "another" plate and run a lower risk of getting pulled over, but a higher fine.

Well, I've made my decision. I got my lights fixed (had to replace the passenger side fixture, but they all work right now). Then I "borrowed" a plate from a trailer so I now have the Illinois "TA" plate on my trailer. I hope hope hope this will get me by. I'm going to take back roads and be careful, so hopefully luck will continue to be by my side. If I get pulled over, I get pulled over. I know what risk I'm taking so it'll be my fault and my fault alone if I do.

That being said, I'm all loaded and ready to go. So, as they say, lock and load!!

I'll be sure to post pics tomorrow of my haul to and from. I'll also try to get a couple pics of the fellow member I'll be meeting up with (here's a hint: he currently has 83 posts, and is highly unlikely to up that count in the next day or so). So, here's to dumb luck!

For the reasons above, and as I suggested earlier, I would run with no plate. You could be accused of attempting to title jump if you get caught. I'd rather take my chances explaining the issue to smokey with what paperwork I had than to get nailed for committing a blatant lie of a crime. Cops don't like being lied to.

On the other side.. If you have a RECENT bill of sale (I think Indiana gives you 30 days) you can run whatever plate you want that is appropriate for the vehicle in the name of getting the plate "transferred" at a later time. Bring the registration that belongs to the plate with you.

No matter what you do, I wish you good luck and smooth sailing!

id take the highway and stay in the slow lane, most cops just go flying by but on a back road they cant pass and are stuck behind you. good luck with your trip.

Eh, you guys worry too much. If he put trailer plates on it, and has lights they won't even check. I've lived here all my life, and pulled trailers, drove semi's...... cops NEVER check trailer registrations. If the plates are current, and the lights work, he's golden.

You're probably right, J, but I don't think anyone here wants to be the guy that gave him advice that is going to earn him problems. $15 on the u-haul still seems the path of least risk.

On top of that, I need to get a light adapter so the lights will work on the trailer. If I had plates I'd risk using it, but without plates OR lights, I don't want to be driving an hour each way on the interstate risking a ticket.

Then again, I have done stupider
Finish the other half of the title yourself.

Ryan,
Go with your trailer plan and run with it. Drive the speed limit and follow all the rules of the road.

The chances of getting pulled over by the police is slim to none. (Disclaimer: if you do get pulled over, I had nuttin' to do with it. Also buy a lottery ticket if you do get pulled over.............)

Good luck and charge the camera/phone.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
