I just sprayed it down. I'll give it a couple weeks to soak before I mess with it. I'm not really in a hurry.

That's funny right there.

Seriously though the engine may be a "basket case" but at least it's there. Good idea to soak it, surface rust, no worries. My second O has the wrong engine that runs backwards so you're ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned. Just saw the standard front crumple zone on the hood. Seems to be the norm. Neutral start switch, not an option then, Lol.

That looks well beyond suface rust, i bet the block will need decked to get rid of the pits and hopefully it can be bored enough to get rid of any pits in the cylinder. I agree its good that all the parts are there, always good when you dont have to hunt for alot of hard to find parts.

Do yourself a favor and read this, it really is the best way I've found to remove rust if you are not in a hurry (takes a couple weeks).

CLICK

You can also watch this too, not my video but it gives you a good idea of how well it works.
Part1
Part2

I've used this for a ton of parts, it's cheap, easy and can be done in a 5 gal bucket if needed. I've done entire fenders and doors for my truck, engine blocks, cylinder heads, tools, etc...

For the life of me, I can't understand Why anyone wouldn't want an Original... or several!

I do agree that for "real work" Narrow and Wide Frames are a little more handy, but Originals are just FUN.

Once you drive one, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Mark, I'm already in love! I pushed it on the truck backwards on purpose so I could ride it down the ramps. I was grinning ear to ear

Default Rust removal.

cc bob,

Thanks for the "sweet" tip (molasses), for rust removal. I've used vinegar, but it must be watched, because it will etch and discolor metal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
