How would you accomplish the trans /tranfer unless you went hydro as the trans is in the trans/axle maybe a hydro frt end only use as needed

most of the mudder vids I see, they are just 2wd LT's getting stuck, which I think is kind of the goal /fun

I have used welded rears on race cars with great success but it's going to increase your turning radius by a ton even if you only weld up the rear diff. You are likely to break the rear if you plan on a lot of low speed, tight turns. Nothing like a 15-point turn to get out of the paddock onto the starting grid. If you've got plenty of parts to play with I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.

No help on your future build, but I do agree somewhat with the naysayers and I do have respect for you trying something outside the box.
We've just seen enough "projects" started with many giving their input and not seeing an end to the project. If it is something your set on building come hell or high water then get out your paper and pencil and start the design and gathering up parts and have at it.
I wish you luck, and look forward to the end results.

If you look at the link that I posted when I started this thread, the guy has 2 identical peerless transmissions and he connects both shifter linkages to 1 shifter. It is all time 4wd. I watched all of his videos and he went through trial and error like anyone would building a 1 off project.
As I said before, just gathering ideas and nothing is concrete.

I am in the same boat as you are in. I am going to get another MTD I think it is, and make mine a 4x4. I am not going to ruin my 127. I have not the money to get a 4 wheeler and don't need a ton of high speed to just tool around the woods.

Basically, I am going to put larger tires on it, a larger pulley, and some suspension under the front to allow just a bit more pivot. I know its a tractor. That's the best part. One is like an 84 Murray. So if its messed up, who cares.

Mod a lawn tractor is like 300 bux in parts. Where can I get anything close to that in a 4 wheeler?

Unless you have the skills needed to do the project I agree with the nay sayers. As a learning project it may well be too difficult. On the other hand if you have fabrication skills you need to say so.

Murray Mayhem has been working on his tandem axle murray gator for a while. He originally started with 2 transaxles. I think he gave up on that because he could not make them shift together. He is now using 1 transaxle and driving the 2nd axle with a chain.. His plan is to lock the diff so the transaxle will be driving all 4 wheels all the time. That has me wondering if he will be trashing a lot of transaxles.

If I were to go this route I would forget mechanical linkages and shift with small linear actuators. If you go that route I can help you with the control circuit.

This thread for some reason seems to create an undue amount of controversy. That said if you want to build a 4X4 something go for it. The engineering to make it work properly for a one of a kind machine is a bit much but some of you guys have the talent to pull it off. I do not and I will not try to talk any of you out of doing it. Some of us have tried to convince you that it may be for whatever reason not something that you wish to pursue and have gotten a lot of flack for our comments. So with that said if you want to build a 4X4, have at it and please feel free to share the build with the rest of us. I'm only speaking for myself but I'm willing to bet that the other mods will also agree and will sit back and watch.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
