I have a QA42 and a QA36 that sit on pallets. I've never used them in favor of just a blade, weights and chains. I tried hooking up the 42 and it lasted about 2 seconds before the chain went flying off the sprocket in to the snow and it sounded like it was waiting to kill me. I probably didn't have things adjusted correctly.
Like you we've gotten many feet of snow in the last 2 months. I usually go for the JD 2 stage walk behind blower then go around and clean up with the 149/blade. Thanks for the inspiration to perhaps give the QA's another try. B |

I was at work through most of the first big snow this season. I came home to about 9" of wet snow. My 149 with the blade was pretty much useless. The snow was so heavy that with the blade angled, the tractor went sideways and with the blade straight I could only push about 10' until the pile weighed more than the tractor and all forward progress stopped. My other 149 with the QA42A did fine as long as I took smaller bites and didn't go too fast. It would have been miserable if I wasn't on a hydro with hydro lift. These singe stage throwers are much better than most people say they are. You just have to learn how to use 'em.

I have to agree on those old snow throwers. I used one for many years. I had a 54" haban on my big 2084 and that snow pushed me around even with the super. I took that off and put my 451 two stage on and had no more trouble unless the snow was blown before or was coming over the top then the belt started to squeal and I backed up fast.

Thanks Guys,
The last time I used this I heard a chirping sound coming from the motor so today I checked to see if the head gasket was blown. It was and it must have just happened as there was no oil residue on the fins or on the head. Cleaned up the carbon, and flattened the head, checked the bore and it still has the cross hatch marks from it still being a newer replacement motor and all. Gave a run for 15 minutes and will re-torque the bolts tomorrow. Bring on some snow!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
