Thanks for the tips on the fuel system and the encouragement. Hopefully I'll get a chance to hook up new fuel lines Sat. and see if it will run. If all is well I'll dig deeper into the fuel system then. Will try to get some pics then also.

Got it running today! The carb is going to have to be rebuilt. I have a bit of a surging governor, believe I saw some info on the forum concerning that. The engine isn't smoking and runs fairly smooth. Hydraulics on the deck work well. Both belts are about to break, but I still found a few leaves to grind up. The hydro is working really good. I did my best to tear it up but it is working great, climbing steep hills, running full speed in one direction and then slamming the hydro the opposite direction to lock up the wheels (on concrete of course)--none of that seemed to bother it. The deck sounds great, need to check for loose bearings now that it has run a few minutes. May have to change the front idlers. I'll drain the hydro and put on a new filter. Driveline looks fairly tight but I may go ahead and change the couplers (ragjoints). I have the sheet metal, just leaving it off while we are checking it over. got to put the air filter back on as well. The key switch feels a little mushy, probably just go ahead and change it out. In other words, its a 30 year old mower that has been sitting unused outdoors the past few years so you can imagine it needs a little TLC. Oh yeah, needs 2 headlights, but the taillights burn!

Test to see if the headlights are really burned out, sometimes just a bad wire or connection unpluged.
Napa has the headlights for $10.99 each,--- best price I've found.
Also you have a choice of spade or screw terminals.

Actually I don't think they are burned out as one would burn when I first got it. The terminals have literally fallen off the back the lights! I'm looking at upgrading some lights on a combine, I think it has the same sealed beams.

They are a 4411 tractor light,
I have several times easily resoldered the terminal to the sealed beam.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
