I check the oil in all my small engines each time I start them. My 1250 Nightmare uses a very small amount of oil, and I need to add about every month. That isn't bad, but I still check it.

That's what I do because my 1450 and new(to me) 125 burns some oil.

None of my cubs use oil . I check the oil evert time I use one just for peace of mind . I did find that the fuel pump had failed on my 682 and filled the crank case with gas one time . Had I not checked the oil then, it would have been a disaster .

Before every use and every time I add fuel.
My question is; Why wouldn't you?

Every time I go outside with my CC key I check oil, gas and take a quick look over the entire machine.
The first Mrs. cubby wouldn't check oil on a car until the oil light stayed on at freeway speeds ![]() ![]() |

I always check the engine crankcase oil in the 71 before start up, and the fuel. After the tractor shuts back down, I check the engine crankcase oil once more, and top off the 5 quart fuel tank if needed.
On another note, after the lunch break, or waiting on a load of material, ect. , we always gave it thought to check the engine oil in our construction equipment. There was more than one time, where I caught a problem developing whether it be low engine oil, engine oil contamination,.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
