I used to use sand, and then switched to the glass beads from Northern Tool and TSC. MUCH better way to go. This may be part of your problem, if you keep reusing the same sand the granules eventually get pulverized down to a point where they're ineffective. The glass beads hold up longer than sand and no more clouds of harmful silica dust.

I can list a few other advantages to glass beads. They don't etch your cabinet glass as fast. Since I can't stand using those plastic glass protecters this is important to me. Glass beads leave a smoother finish. Glass beads don't embed in the substrate as bad. I have been using baking soda in my cabinet some with fair results. It works good on removing paint and leaving no etch on the metal. Most places say you need special equipment but I just pour it in and blast. I have to kick the cabinet every so often to break up the clumps. It works great for blasting paint off wiring harnesses, zinc plated bolts, glass, plastic, etc. I buy it by the bag at Sam's.

Here are a couple more pictures of what I have gotten done so far. I hope to be installing decals soon. As for the dash, I need to find a good steering wheel center cap. It is on the to do list. Thanks
