I've been referencing that same thread quite a bit with my non chargers. Some of these v/r's just need an adjustment. My n/c contacts actually became open for some reason with charlottes web in between. A little adjusting and cleaning and voila, 13.8 volts again.
Redrider did you get this figured out yet???

On my 100, I have had several VR's over the years. I found that the L terminal stands for LOAD. On my 100 it has the hot wire to the points, and is always hot when the key is on. Often, headlights were attached to the L terminal. I believe on my 100 and 124, that the L terminal goes directly to the battery (or at least, the switch). I have never seen a VR that didn't have a Batt, Gen, and F terminal (and others). But, then again, there have been many VR's used by cub over the years. I would look for VR from NAPA that has Batt, F, Gen terminals. Take your old VR down and look through their book, if possible). Good luck.
