Well its been a while again but I have started the teardown of the 73. I decided to do this one different than the 127 as it was a learning experience for me. The 73 is rougher than the other but I'm getting used to how the NF's are put together and their differences. I'm on the fence about replacing the dash tower or repairing it because its pretty roached. Will try to post some pics of that soon too. I think I'm going to post another thread in the implements section on the 42 inch deck overhaul that I'm doing too, parts are everywhere thats for sure.

And here it is after a long pressure wash

Mess O' parts so far

Blasted and welded up the pan seat and reinforced the bottom side so hopefully it wont crack again

And the deck

Heres my dash tower with rot on the battery tray and a few other places. I found a couple but shipping to FL is a little steep. Going to need some pieces that I'm missing but have not got to ordering yet because of focusing on the deck for the 127. So the question is fix this one or save some pennies for another one thats better?

Already rebuilt and installed the missing PTO and fixed the old exhaust that was about 4 iches longer than this but PO mods were everywhere on this one

Thanks pal. Yeah, definitely needing some help on old smokey 127. Unfortunately i think its getting worse. I'm starting to second guess my ring installation but I'm all over the place with that one.

Thumbs up

Alvy- Nice seat pan repair. Like the steering wheel, fenders if you got them, those parts become places to grab hold of to move the garden tractor to and from, or out of stuck. That's how those things become cracked, bent, and out of shape for the most part.

Terrific documentation on this 73. Those rear wheels look killer, too! I, personally have seen better dash towers in my life. One from a 72 would work as well for a replacement. The key switch on the other hand, might still function correctly, and should be considered before scrapping out the dash tower. Opinions vary depending on what side of the computer screen you're on, but maybe one would pop up near by for a fair price. Having said that, I would make the tower last on the list of to do at this point.

That's all I have to say, I'll sit back and read now!

Thanks John. I have been wondering what other models used this dash tower because its different than the normal fiberglass ones of this group so that's cool. Yeah I'm happy with the seat repair, not much of a body man but its been trial and error for sure. Hope it lasts but if not right back under the MIG it will go, i did some large tacks underneath and rosette welded the holes under there too, seems pretty strong with my caboose on there, and no more creaking and weird noises. Thanks for looking.

Alvy,
Good work on your restoration. Seat work looks just fine. I also have a 73 and its on the list of thinks to do. Needs engine work and has electrical issues.
Try to find a new dash tower locally. yea that one is past its prime. I also really like the look of those big ags on the 73. I have those Tru Powers on the 147R and they work real good. Thanks for posting all the great shots.
Regards,
Chris

It has been a while since I posted but I have been feverishly working on the 73 non stop and actually ran it for the first time last night. I wish I would have taken more pics but time is so limited for me and clock is ticking for another "bun in the oven" and that I get to work only a little bit here and a little bit there, mostly at night. I would have liked to do some things with paint and body work a little different but these projects are very time consuming as most of you know. Here are a few pics though and next time will be a slower process I hope. Only have to paint the rear rims and decal kit, probably going to do a wire harness in the future but I think its coming out ok. Thanks to Rweaver for all the parts I needed and great service too

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
