they dont want to do the work to get that kind of money (parting it) so they say it worth that in parts. but to me as a hole its not a 625.00 tractor.

we all see it all the time on CL. guy has a POS for sale , asking way to much. cause he thinks he can get that out of it in parts.
I don't remember saying anything about parting a cub. I've never parted one to date. I think we all have that thinking when looking at a cub for sale.

I have 2 originals love them both
Rear lift is very pricey
My 2 originals are 7 numbers apart from each other
Both dec 61 tractors one should have been parted but I built it instead
My 2nd one will stay stock when I redo it (it has rear pto)
The frames are prone to cracking where they bolt to the rearend
Alsoyou can get the seals for the rear by crossreferencing the part numbers to rawhide seals

I also bought a 15 pack of the o rings for the column to the dash( it was cheaper to buy15than one from ebay)

I think you scored big. A lot has to do with location.... but you did really well with that. Wish you could mail me the deck! (Could you get it in a flat rate box?) :-)

4Speed, here in Arkansas, Cubs are around, but not as plentiful especially optioned out. I went to look at a JD one afternoon and while talking to the guy, he said he had an old Cub in the back shed and we went to look at it. Needless to say, I ended up buying it just for the options on it. I hate to part tractors, but this one was too far gone overall, the trans was a mass of rusted and jammed gears and the frame was broken and repaired(poorly) more than once. As far as price, I gave too much, but I wanted the options. I did sell the rear lift as my tractor already had one and recouped some of my money. But I got a good fuel tank, fenders and an early Brinly sleeve hitch for my tractor. Here is a pic of the parts tractor and one of my good tractor with my son plowing before I got the options put on.

By the way, I feel you did very well on your tractor, should be an easy restore. Have fun with it, that's what it is all about. Happy New Year!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
