Got some pictures:

Here's the stripped and disconnected exhaust manifold:

The two mufflers are identical, I just have no idea which one flows better or why grandpa had two of them:

And here's the throttle shaft part I was talking about that jumps around while its running. If its just a worn out bushing, I'd love to fix it up on the cheap and keep on rockin with the sub-optimal Walbro:

Great photos...did anyone mention that photos are appreciated here ?

Anyway, yes, that exhaust elbow sure seems like the threads are hosed on it. Hopefully the threads in the cylinder are still sharp and strong.

Looks like the Walbro has a bushing in it .....does the shaft wobble within the bushing or the bushing within the carb housing....or is it just the linkage shaking around?

John

Default That'll work!

Good idea... just make sure the bracket is bolted down so you don't put more stress on the cylinder threads!

I'm seeing a similar looking exhaust manifold on ebay but its listed for a 10hp Kohler K241 and its used. Does this sound right? Anywhere carry this part new?

You'll have to confirm part numbers, but here's the one I bought for my 147 from Tulsa Engine Warehouse. Great prices.

The QL muffler is different from the other mufflers, so that generic one won't work. The elbow is also QL specific and probably isn't available new. If that elbow on ePay is from a 1000, it should work...the exhaust port on a K241 is the same size as the K321.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
