He loves to run along and bark at the mower. What a great dog. Smart as a tack! Wish my wife loved me as much as he does!
![]() Here shortly he and I are going to be spending a lot of time together. I'm retiring in March and plan to take a few horseback trips next year. He's my riding companion. Looking forward to it.

Took a better look at the 682 this morning. The sheet metal has been painted, and while the paint is in good shape, the prep was poor. Rates about a 7-8... (looks great from 7-8 feet away). That may be a good sign, though. If somebody took the pains to paint the thing, maybe...just maybe...they overhauled the engine while they were fixing things. We'll see. I'm looking for my tune-up parts to arrive this week. I'm hoping I can take an evening or two to get the carb overhauled and back on.
I'm also planning to fill the rear tires with washer fluid. I'm wondering whether I should use tubes or not. Recommendations?

I wouldn't count on the engine being overhauled, as the Series I-specific parts needed to do so went NLA long ago. I would use tubes unless the tires have a very deep bead that is difficult to break down. I have knocked a fluid-filled tire off the rim while pushing snow before.

OK. Tubes it is then. Thanks.
Ouch! I knew the Series I KT17 wasn't the favored engine, but I didn't know the parts were NLA. Hmmm. Guess that means a repower at some point down the road. I'll have to start keeping an eye out for a candidate for a replacement motor to rebuild and install. So much fun!

Cool! The 682 was running poorly, would only run with the choke full on. Pulled the carb and cleaned her out, reinstalled it and it runs like a champ. Didn't even need the carb kit I ordered (hasn't arrived yet). Just need to get that muffler installed. It's loud!
One thing concerns me. It likes to run full throttle at an RPM that is higher than I'm comfortable with for this motor. What should full-throttle RPM be? I'm thinking it's missing governor parts. Anybody have a picture of what the governor assembly looks like on a KT17 Series 1? From the parts list it looks like I may be missing the Governor Gear kit (#12) and the Governor Stop Adjustment Pin (#14). Maybe somebody has an old Series 1 motor laying around they don't need....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
