Well I drove it around about 20 minutes today pushing leaves and apples around with the JB. I guess I'm ripping the rear end/pump back out tomorrow. Cant stand not having it running. I have a full day to work on it so I should be able to swap my old one back in. The input shaft seal is leaking pretty bad. I assume there is probably a bearing there that is also bad. The axles shift in and out a lot too for some reason. Probably better see whats going on there too.

Axial play in the axles is normal. There is nothing to keep them from sliding in and out slightly.

Just change the seal...that's probably easier and faster than swapping the rear again. What makes you think the bearing is bad, too?

I couldnt get to the seal very easily with it in the tractor. Its not really that big deal to swap them. I timed taking the ported one out and did it in 30min. And that is with spending probably 10min searching for the extension I couldnt find. It was hiding in the tool box all along, lol. I messed around with some other issues before I put it back in. Fixed the trunnion. Seems to work good now and should last. Hairpin clip sheared off in my 3pt lift block on the arm. Made a clip with a hanger. I'll see how long it last. I have a problem with the relief valves dimple stuck in. The ones that go in to push it. I took them out and tried to push them back from the inside but they are stuck. Would they pop back up when trying to drive it? I swapped them out for now. Test drove it and its all like it was before my hydraulic idea, lol. Well with a few things fixed I guess. Now Im thinking back about the adding a pump idea. If only the saginaw pump spun the other way....

Now time to carve some pumpkins with the kids!

larry, you could turn the pump around the other way, EG. instead of the pulley facing forward/ pulley facing rearward... if there is enough room. Just a thought.

Yea I thought of that but then the SG is in the way to get the pulleys lined up. I need to investigate maybe mounted it under the hood in front of the engine maybe?

Im alive, just caught up in life. The 147 is still running good. Used the rototiller for the first time few weeks ago. Worked good. Still no hydraulic lift though. I still need to get a new seal for the input shaft on my ported rear end. And I was thinking... That came out of a 129 with no engine. I recently got an old Tecumseh 18hp oh180. I was kind of thinking of sticking it in the 129. Then go back to an auxiliary pump idea on the 147. If I do, it wont be for a while though. Trying to get the house ready to sell so I can get a little bit of land, garage, and hopefully a pole barn too.

What happen to your rear end?

Larry,
Good to hear from you. Great you have a life. some of us get consumed with Cubs. That's about where I am right now. Based on my past I will ride this Cub wave about 5 years then it will taper off some.
Really hope you get the land and the pole barn! Im pulling for you. I also would love to build another building to have as a shop/ big garage.
I have a thread started on "Sugarmakers 252 4x4" I have grandiose ideas of building a custom Cub 4x4 articulated with two hydros. Well neither is ported so I have been trying to figure out the next moves. Don't really want to buy another tractor for parts.
You had done a lot of rear end swapping and it kept coming up in the search for ported hydros.
Hope things are good!
Regards,
Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
