This "rebuild" cost me $249! I sure hope he did a thorough job. He did give me all of my old parts and an itemized list of what he replaced. I guess time will tell.
Again, this motor is a rattle-can special.

Got the motor in and running this afternoon. It sounds really nice. No smoke or anything:biggrin2.gif:.
One question though, it seems that the governor won't let the motor run on its own. I mean, I have to keep pressure on the throttle lever or the governor will pull it back down to idle. Does this sound like a cable misadjustment? The gov springs are in the same position as before the rebuild.
I'll try to post some pics this evening.
Ian

Here are a couple of pics almost completely assembled. I still need to clean up my rims, get new front tires and decals. Other than that, it's together.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why my throttle lever won't stay up?
Thanks,
Ian

IanC,
You did a really nice job! I went back to see how it started. NICE JOB.

I haven't come across a throttle problem like yours, so I'll be watching to see what it is. Again. Nice work.

Did you go through the Kohler governor adjustment procedure? If I remember right you loosen the clamp and then turn the shaft with pliers all the way to one side or the other...the manual says which and I have CRS..

I didn't adjust anything yet. I had this motor gone through and the builder didn't have the tractor there. He just had it running on his stand.
If I disconnect the throttle arm off the carb, I can keep it running no problem. With everything hooked up like it was before the rebuild, it'll rev up and then just rev down. I can keep it running w/ the throttle lever on the dash, but it will NOT stay at a set rpm. Is this a governor issue?
Thanks, Ian

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
