Thanks Mike, The s/g took a nose dive just on the last load. Would not start so I removed it and the pulley shaft will turn easy, then hard. I think the brushes or bearings went bad. The working volt meter on board shows a charge of about 13.75, so that still was working. The 71 would not start back up, sometimes a click-click, got dark so its in the cub shop. Should be able to come up with a repair in the morning.
I should have stopped and swapped out the s/g when I was hearing funny little noises. Guess in the near future I will be learning how to inspect, test, and re-build the good 'ol Delco Remy! ![]()

Pictured here are parts of the 72. The first picture is of the front axel in a white sealer. I had a weld shop weld in the cuts in the axel from the deck drive belt. The following picture is that of the primer in a spray can I thought I'd give a try. Next, you have the axel in this primer photo,.............
![]() ![]() ![]() Might as well go for the starter generator bracket too. First up is said part in a sealer, lastly is said part in same primer. I finished out the new primer can between the two parts. ![]() ![]() Just thought some IH Cub Cadet enthusiast would like to see a model 72, since OCC to be the place to be !

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
