I agree it is your tractor. I like the original colors on mine but yours with the yellow wheels look great. The lettering would look better to me white or yellow. .

Someone else pointed to that tractor earlier in the thread, so I have seen it.
I haven't really thought going to a third color, like adding white, would work out. But I'll try it with PaintShop and see how it looks. Here's the inspiration for the color scheme: ![]() Bryan's 1450 recolored doesn't really capture the complete look I'm going for, as I want to run ag tires all around. Maybe I'll see if I can edit them into the pictures. I wanted to go with the industrial-type tires they run on these scuts, but it doesn't look like you can find them in a size that would run on a 1650. |

Maybe change your decals to match that tractors? I think white lettering would would be nice.With 254 post so far I must have missed that being posted before. I'm a slacker!

One of the things about the photoshopping - it's not like I'm good enough to really make it look like a picture. It's just to get a general idea. So where the blacks look too flat, or the yellows too dull, or whatever...It's just a limitation of simulation.
So where the Yanmar looks shiny and all, my images tend to look a little chunky and drab - that's where we get the CAT look. I think it would strike some of you differently if it's for real. Of course there's the purist perspective, which I appreciate (I really do.) But I'm just not sure that the white and baby blue represented this tractor well. It's a freakin' beast.. |

I picked up my engine from the machine shop today. And no, it's not ready to rebuild.
I took it back because I'm not at all happy with the machinist, so I'm taking it somewhere else. After I took it in, I had to call him 10 days later because he never contacted me with an initial evaluation. His reason? There was no area code on my phone number. So I told him I wanted him to go through it and measure it up, and let me know where we stand so I'll know what we need to do, and what I need to buy. He reported back that the cylinder was about a thousandth under, so it would need to be bored ten over. I asked him about the valves and guides, and he said everything "looked OK" there. If you recall, I had measured the valve stems a little below Kohler specs back when I took it apart. Then based on the discussion I had with Matt here on undersized rods, I called him back and asked about the crank journals, because I figured if they were to the low side, I'd just have them machined and go with a ten under crank. So I asked him what it was measuring. He said he hadn't measured it, but if I "wanted to spend the money" he'd take a look at it. Then I asked him about the valves and guides again, he said everything "looked good" there and didn't figure I'd need to buy new valves. I told him that I measured the stems low, and asked what he measured. He said he hadn't measured them. So today, I went over and picked up my engine. He has the cylinder currently at .008" over, waiting on the piston and rings to finish it out at ten over. I'm not at all comfortable with this guy working on my engine. That K341 put in a good 25-30 years of service, and I want it to put in another 30+. Now I need to find a good machinist that will pay attention to the details. |

Does anyone have a copy of those sheets that Kohler produced that are fill-in-the-blank for a machinist / rebuilder to write down all the critical measurements? I saw them somewhere, but not complete. It'd be nice to have these to give to the next guy.

but you've done the right thing. For it to last you've got to have someone that will do as good of a job as your doing on the rest of the 1650. Way to stick to your guns.
