Finished the reflectors today. Adjusted the carb, set max RPM and checked timing with my timing light. Drove around the yard a while and let it run to break in the engine. Picked up some white paint for the hood and a battery to replace the one I stole from the 129.

Found out that the tractor was only charging at 12.5 volts so I tried unsuccessfully to adjust the output of the voltage regulator. It would either charge at 12.5V or the contacts would stick and charge at 17V. I pulled an old Delco regulator out of my stash and swapped it onto the tractor. It was also charging around 12.5V so I messed with the adjustment screw on the voltage regulator coil and got it charging at 13.6-14v.

Third time’s the charm with paint on the hood. The first time, there were several wavy spots that showed up in the gloss. Several coats of primer and lots of block sanding later it was ready for another attempt. The second time, I didn’t thin the paint enough and it didn’t flow out so it wasn’t smooth. As I tried to sand it smooth this morning, I cut through the paint in a couple spots, so I sprayed it once again.

I’d say that the paint is plenty good for a tractor. Check out those reflections. I can read the air cleaner decal in the paint.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens.
