Cool. Just picked up my air cleaner assembly on eBay for $30 with shipping. The tractor was missing the cover and they're $85 new.

Yeah, that's bent. Notice the scratch marks on the brake lock tab don't line up with the latch on the pedal itself. A couple smacks with a BFH will put that where it belongs.

Thanks Bryan. Is that pic off a showroom floor?

Do I remember reading that you used truck bedliner on your foot pads? I read that somewhere and I love the idea. Saw a gallon of it at the hardware store today for $55, so that's not cool.

Updating from post #106, I forgot to mention that I did find that the rear wheels were, in fact, mounted inside-out.

So I have 23x8.5-12's that someone turned inside-out to widen the stance.

Here's how it went for me: I read Bill's post and thought "OK, I'll throw this aluminum pan out if I can find a good deal on a cast iron one."

Then I read Matt's post, and thought "hey, maybe with a little work this is worth saving." But as I continued to read, I thought about what I had access to, and could see the costs mounting. It didn't take long before I realized that it would probably be more expensive to fix this aluminum one than to buy a cast iron pan - although, I will talk to the welder guy I'm working with to get his opinion. He might say "no problem."

So you've both contributed to my knowledge (and many others who will read this,) my options were clear, and it was up to me to decide my time, resources and cost. I have the info to make those decisions.

That's why this is a great forum. So both, keep up the good work! We all have different perspectives on how to tackle a problem.
Dave, I have one more perspective for you! I have a deep sump aluminum oil pan that you can have for free! It has one mounting hole has been repaired at somepoint by a PO with a helicoil, looks to be done properly, bolt threads in it easily. The mounting pads are not worn, over all it is in very good shape. But, being aluminum, it is not highly prized, if you want to pay the freight (I guess $10-15 bucks), it is yours. PM me and let me know.

Here are a couple pics of it (the reason it is green, been cleaned up and shot with etching primer):

That must be an improvement made by IH over the 149 I have, the brake pedal on mine lacks the s bend in it mid section. It wants to make contact with the rear dash tower bolt.

Default foot pads

Dave,

On the footpads I used rust encapsulator for the base coat and then shot 3M undercoating on top of that. The 3M comes in spray cans and sets up hard ... I've got about 15hrs on the tractor thus far but anything on them simply washes away.

Actually I think it was to clear the side panel, but what you've noticed is still a result of that.

westofb - thank you for the kind offer. I'm going to poke around for a bit to see if I can find a cast iron one at a reasonable cost, and if that doesn't come through I'll take you up on that.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
