The 149's operation is simplified by using a automotive style 3 position key switch. Off-Run-Start....you simply turn the key. The Original has a 2 position key switch Off-On, and an additional push button that is essentially 'Start'.....this adds 'things that need to happen' to start the tractor as compared to the 149's 3 position switch. A Farmall H has a push-pull switch for the ignition, and a push button starter. If you choke the tractor until it dies, or run out of gas, and don't push the ignition switch in, it will kill the battery.

Plus, on an Original, if you have the transmission in gear, and you push the starter button (even without the key on), the tractor will move! It won't fire, but the turning of the S/G through the driveline will move the tractor forward or backward depending on the gear it's in.

I don't know if the S/G on a hydro tractor would turn fast enough to move the tractor at all if the speed control in up or down....but it could be an accident waiting to happen.
I know all this Bill, but the gentlemen mentioned having problems with putting the key in the ignition and wanted info about putting a push button in place. I was just offering my two cents.

and as far as the O moving when you push the button what are you gonna do recall them or just be careful they are what they are right.

might want to try an atv/ racing kill switch. I have seen them , used them, but never wired one in. Its a switch mounted on the handlebars, with a plastic clip which has to be in place on the switch. The clip is attached to the operator, with a lanyard. if operator leaves machine for any reason, ignition is killed. You
could wire it through another solenoid which connects power between battery and tractor. Never have that problem again. Plus, if she falls off for any reason, tractor would stop automatically, and she wouldnt be physically tied to it as was suggested earlier.

Id rather cut the grass for her.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
