Nick,
It was locked up when we bought thr tractor.Great thing to deal with as we got the tractor alot cheaper. I parted another 1250 out that was mechanically good, but severely beat up by the PO. They just welded everything when it broke.Hood, tierod ends deck, etc and the motor and clutch as well as trans still worked well with no smoking.I was planning to use this on my grand sons red and white tractor, but we gotta do something to keep the snow plowing back in business..I have plenty of time to locate a motor for the other tractor.

Poor boy has no heart now...
![]() Some pics of the troublesome pieces... JB Weld should be able to fix this back up huh?? ![]() Maybe some slight polishing with emery cloth to knock off the roughness....:biggrin2.gif: ![]() not sure if a little oxy/acet will cure this... ![]() If all goes well,I will be reinstalling a 12 hp later today and maybe have it running today or sometime this week. All depends on how much better I feel with this flu crud..

I don't understand why the 3 pin driver broke.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Pat.

Was the motor apart before it was installed in your Cub?
Was your Cub still using iso mounts? |

I would have to say the motor was either ran out of oil or the rod was installed backwards. That will smoke a rod every time. And as far as the driver plate that looks like an alignment issue.

I checked the oil which was just changed a week or two ago and it was in the grid as well clean.I had used the tractor all summer and even mowed with it as well 3-4 weeks ago. I don't know why the driver broke but maybe when rod let loose,it did it then. All my ISO mounts are new and I maintain this tractor possibly too much.Like I said earlier, this motor was in pieces so we threw it back together and it lasted way longer than we expected. I now have the 12 hp in the frame and swapped the tin and am in the process of bolting the mounts and small items. Then I will remove the clutch to install the 3 pin driver.

OK update time again. I retrieved he 12 HP motor which again we don't know the total history about and swapped parts from the 14 HP onto this motor. oil is full and I tried to get it running to see it's condition before spending too much money. After I sat it in the frame,I swapped carbs and wired it up. I hooked up the fuel tank and gave it a go. It had all kinds of spark but the gas was spewing out the carb. In no way did it fire. After reading Matt G's timing and going back out, still no go. I was stumped. So,tonight,I came home and removed the carb again.I was going to swap the 12 carb on and for some reason,I decided to hit the key. Then immediately seen my trouble. The intake valve was stuck open. Took the head off and sure enough,it was up. I seen a piece of carbon stuck on the valve face. I rotated the flywheel and managed to get the piece out as well as the other carbon off the piston and valves. I then spun it over and the valves operate great now. Looked in the cylinder and it looked nice with no scoring. I reinstalled the head and assembled it. First turn and it started right up. It is definitely a smoker now.I plan to change oil and maybe add a little marvel oil in it to see if it clears up. It has tons of power and runs really smooth.Just need to see if the smokingwould clear. This motor was rolled around and the muffler might have some oil in it as well. Time will tell I guess..

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
