I'm having the exact same problem your having on my 1450. I looking at the wiring diagram posted in the fact section, and my wire color to the coil does not match the diagram. So I tried to correct that problem, only to find I think someone has "tried" to fix the ignition switch in the past. I'm going to purchase a new wiring harness for mine in the near future. My problem is intermittent, and it seems it will turn over great, but will only fire when the switch is released, it's like a split second of fire it gets, not enough to start it like it should. I'm wondering if you do not have a problem with the switch, or wiring harness, being you have the 1450, and 1650 will they interchange on the wiring harness, and ignition switch ? If so the switch would be easy to change out, the wiring harness does not look to bad either. Clint |

You might want to study this diagram (as found in our Technical Library Section) to help you with the Elec problem... Kohler

I have a wiring harness for that thing in reserve and also a new switch I bought them a few years back when I couldn't get the engine to turn over, but Roland suggested I look at the ammeter and sure enough the internal circuit was broken all I did was an external bypass (wire around the 2 terminals ) and it fired right up. I may try replacing those two components this week if the test Roland pulled up seems normal. What part of Georgia do you live in? I live in Carrollton. Roland Thanks for the diagrams, I guess I'll get out the old meter and see if any of the new parts are bad.

Myron!
I put a new switch on today and it fired right up ! Thankyou Thankyou everyone who helped me solve all this mess. That motor cranks better than it ever has in the 10 years I've had it. I adjusted the hydro linkage with the punch and hammer and had the wheels still at the neutral point and set it down and it took off in reverse after a few more adjustments I drove it around the house and I knew it needed to slightly down on the punch adjustment and barely moved it without it running and rear wheels in air and when I cranked it it took off in reverse and I broke the shifter arm off pushing forward (I had the 185 2 feet away to stop it) That'll teach me to be cocky and not do what the manual says ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
