Pulling the power from the hour meter worked for me on my 1541. I only had to hold the switch in run for a couple of seconds before starting.

Personally, I would use a 5 pin automotive relay wired like this.
A wire from the starter solenoid goes to pin 87A which provides power to the fuel pump through pin 30 when the key is in the Start position.
A wire to from a lead that is hot when the key is in the Run position goes to pin 86.
When the key is released to the Run position, the relay is energized, pins 87A and 30 open, pins 87 and 30 close and power is maintained to the pump.

If you want the option run the carb "dry" you could add a toggle switch to pin 87.

I like Ironman's idea of using a relay for the pump accessory. This way, you won't be overloading the "run" circuit (i.e. red/white wire). If this was my project, I will do it.

Still.... the more I think about this even though I think adding a diode (directional) or use Ironman's relay, something still doesn't come clean for me with why the starting circuit fails with the pump running on the run circuit. Now I wonder..... maybe bad ground! With a bad ground back to battery, the electrical circuit can do strange things to find a way to complete a circuit, including passing thru pto relays and other safety circuits, thus triggering a no start condition. Try running a jumper from pump ground to battery negative and see what happens.

The common problem with these tractors is the solenoid engagement power runs through the ignition switch. This overload the internal contacts. My 2084 with a fully charged battery will not crank until I hook a 10-amp charger, then it fires right off. The solution is the relay that everyone recommends. I need to do this, just haven't gotten around to it.

If I were adding an electric fuel pump (be sure it's a low-pressure version) I'd run power through an identical relay. Just buy two kits.

Thanks for this Gary. Mine came in yesterday and I'm floored by the deal.
I'll be fixing my solenoid issues with these. So far I'm good with the vacuum pumps.

But I do have an issue with my 2084 draining the battery overnight. I suspect my HF winch has a low draw when off. Between that and the solenoid draw I have to hook up a 10A charger to bump it off.

Are these the same relays that are used for the Starter Assist?

Yes they are...I have them on all three of my cubs to overcome any safety circuitry deficiencies that I may or may not have. Fun project! Cubs start every time...nice!!

Get some before they are gone. You can't beat 5 relays with sockets shipped free to you for only ten bucks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
