A 147 will probably have it on the right side like in Hubman's picture. I think the QL that I used is possibly the only one that doesn't. I can't remember where the sight hole was on either of the 128s I used to have.

So, still no sight hole on my tins. Gave them another look over today. Tried setting the points to .20 then doing the timing procedure like you would if you could see the "S" mark and then just starting it to see if there was any difference. Did this a few times in different directions and by varying how much I set the points by, and still no difference. Sputting, back firing, starts to get a little better with the choke half way closed still.
Any other thoughts or suggestions, would like to try and get it running without having to bet on a non-Walboro carb fixing the problem since I would have to buy one. |

Does the throttle shaft wiggle around at all? I don't remember how, but that main needle comes out, i'd find out how and soak it in carb cleaner. I'll bet the tiny orfices and holes in it are probably plugged. Sane thing happened on my 123. 2 days in the carb soak solved it

If it's backfiring through the carb, the timing still isn't right. Can you post a pic of the left and right side of the flywheel shroud?

Is the coil wired correctly? I had a Kohler in a Economy that acted the same way as you are describing and I found the owner had wired the coil wrong. A quick change of the two wires and it ran fine.

Aparently there isn't anything a complete tune up won't fix, new points, points rod, breather, check valve clearences, and reseat some key wires, fuel treatment in the gas and its running again like it should for the most part.
Still not a fan of the walboro carb, feel like I could really fine tune it if I had a normal carb on here. But it runs without the choke on without sputtering or anything, idles down to a reasonable engine speed, and drives normally again. If only there was a cub dealer around here that didn't charge me shipping when they order parts, had to go to the JD dealer, which is actually closer, to order my kohler parts. Now that its running properly again, time to give the paint a refresh, not going to give it a complete resto right now, not till I can find a good hood and fenders becaus these have seen much better days and not worth the time to repair all the pitting in them. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
