Thanks to everyone who wrote in to my question about the 1650.
I had a chance to see it on the weekend and decided against it. It needs a lot of work and I just don't want to take on another project right now. I'm keeping the 149 but have to admit it is driving me nuts with a hydro leak. I changed the cork gasket at the rearend, the gasket in the middle of the pump, the 3 seals that you can get to, and the big O-ring at the front of the charge pump. It's on jack stands in the garage and I ran it the other day. A couple of hours later there was a drip on the cardboard I placed under the tractor. Last night I sprayed brake cleaner all over the tranny and I'll run it again. Hopefully I don't have to tear it apart again. I don't mind pulling the thing apart but I hate losing oil all over the garage floor. Thanks Richard |

I, for one, am glad that you kept the 149. Maybe the 1650 will come by your way in the future and you'll look upon it with new eyes. As far as working on the 149, you might try a drain tank!!! Drain the fluid into a tank or some kind of open container so that it doesn't end up all over the garage floor. There's a lot of fluid back there and once it starts flowing, it does take a large tank to hold it all, but it is possible. I have a flattened, rectangular oil pan reservoir that I use to catch mine.

Oh I've drained the tank (cat litter pans work great but get the real deep ones) and yet no matter what there always seems to be oil all over the floor. It seems to come from no where. The you step in it and leave Hytran tracks all over.
So why do we love these tractors so much? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
