Well, here's an update on the 70. I decided to go ahead with the paint idea I mentioned in my previous post. I started with teardown:

Didnt take pictures until after new paint was applied, but just about all the old paint was removed from the machine, and then a coat of primer was applied. I do not have the skills nor tools for a proper paint setup so this was all done via spray paint, but i wanted to at least get the paint prep done right and strip everything down so the results might look half decent.
The hood, seat, and wheels received the correct Cub Cadet white. IMG_20220901_175839.jpgIMG_20220903_121244.jpg while anything that was yellow from factory was painted my color of choice. IIRC its Rustoleum "French Lilac". Apparently i didnt take pictures of the frame until after I reattached the wheels either. IMG_20220903_121154.jpgIMG_20220903_121303.jpg

Reassembly went pretty well. I dropped the engine back in it and assembled all the controls so I could do a test run. This included the first new decal, the dash decal.

And finally, finishing reassembly and the final touches. Not too much to note here. The seat was the final piece to be installed. And if the orange gas tank bothered you, I did end up repainting it because it bothered me also.
IMG_20220903_231342.jpg And well, here it is, nearly done and all back together. IMG_20220904_094016.jpgIMG_20220904_093951.jpgIMG_20220904_094029.jpg For what it is everything came out pretty well. There's a couple small spots I need to touch up from during reassembly. That's why the covering is still over the tires. Purple is an odd color choice, but since this machine has a history of strange paint jobs I figured I would try to continue that but do a little better job than the previous one (it was previously brush painted). The color I think actually looks quite nice alongside the CC white. Its far from perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it.

It actually looks pretty nice with an emphasis on "pretty". Surprisingly pleasant also, nice work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
