The other day I was replacing the adhesive 6" sanding disc in my benchtop belt/disc sander.

After a battle with it, I had the paper portion of the old disc peeled off but there was quite a bit of adhesive still left on the disc.

I tried using acetone on a rag to get the adhesive off, but all it seemed to do was soften it and smear it around.
It wouldn't wipe off with the rag but it enabled me to scrape a lot off with a razor blade.

I still wanted the disc cleaner and looked around the shed for some other type of solvent.
I found I had some xylene and tried that.
It worked perfect, all the adhesive wiped off easily with a rag.

I don't know if the xylene would have worked like it did before the acetone or if it was a combination of the two, but that's my story.
Hope it helps.

This is useful information. I went and checked the MSDS on olds45512's suggestion of using Rapid Remover and it seems to contain xylene among the ingredients. I have been noticing that when using acetone, it gums up the adhesive residue when I clean my 16" disc sander. It eventually comes clean after quite a chore. I will try xylene next time! Wear gloves!

High proof hand sanitizer has worked most times for me as well as lighter fluid.

I haven't had a chance to try any of the suggestions yet. Beside the wet and cold days lingering on I find myself fighting some health issues. It may be awhile before I get back to playing/having fun with my tractors.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
