I did get all 6 screws out. Also hosed the 3 holes with a good dose of Liquid Wrench and let that soak overnight. I also tried giving the release button a few good taps to make sure the clutch wasn't stuck.
I'll give the sideways tapping/whacking a try next. Thanks -Steve-

A hardwood 1x2 or 2x2, placed into the PTO's pulley groove, and angled as far backwards as possible, alternating from the right and left sides of the engine, tap it forward, switch sides, tap again.
I use the term "tap" with some vagueness. Start with Spiderman taps, move up to Ironman scale taps, then eventually, if needed, to Thor level taps with a BFH. It may come off with the bearing, or without. Key is to alternate sides, working it off bit by bit.

Sometimes doing the opposite helps break the "seat" and and then it is easier to pull the sheave from the shaft. In this case, you are removing a PTO sheave/clutch from a bearing. I would lightly tap on the PTO around the outer edge towards the motor in hopes of loosening the PTO seated on the bearing and THEN try pulling it off!

I use a broken off hammer handle in the same manner as the hardwood trick.

The straight keyway might be rusted or frozen. Load it up with Blaster and try tapping it or slightly turning the PTO just to free up the keyway enough to pull it out with a pair of needle nose, or even wiggle the PTO out a little bit. Patience is needed as well as lots of Blaster. Good luck. CB

Keyway is not a part of the PTO assembly, only the basket pulley.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
