Just west of Columbus...
The Scout's a '75. I put a '73 grill on it as that's my favorite -- not much else really changed on 'em over the years...

I do like the hydro-static and look forward to rebuilding one...
The 129 has a K321 engine so not much different than the 149 -- my only lament is not getting some of the headlight pieces for my 149...

I don't seem to have the knack for leveling my 38" mower -- mind you I used to fix helicopters so this is mildly embarrassing to me...
But the whole mowing the grass thing is kinda new to me as well...

If there's a better write-up for the mower decks than the owners manual I'd love the link!

I was hoping for a little more...

For instance, the manual would presume all the parts are functioning properly before you adjust the mower -- are there any linkages in the mule-drive that could confound getting a good leveling?

With the 44" deck (that came with the 129) besides the obvious 6" (of cutting swath) are there any differences with the 38" deck on my 149 -- do the wider decks only work well on flatter lawns or anything else I should know?

And then I found the post you made where you levitate your tractor (raise all 4 wheels off the ground) to adjust the blades!

So I'm not wrong -- the method in the manual doesn't actually work in real life for actual people -- good to know...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
