Is this going through your shop, or a side project? I know, so many questions...

It will be coming completely apart and it will get new bolts when going back together, this will be a working tractor when it's done. This is a side project.

If it's going to be a worker, I'd put hydraulic lift on it for sure. Easy while it is apart.

Why do we have to go down this road every time I do a tractor? You wanna know why I use new bolt?

1. Half the bolts have already been replaced and are all miss matched.

2. New bolts look better in my opinion and they help break up all the yellow and white

3. I like to work my tractors and this tractor will be worked and it's a pita having to touch up bolts anytime you need to work on it.

4. My time is valuable and I'm not gonna waste it messing around with old rusty bolts.

I've been to alot of shows and received alot of compliments on my tractor's and not once has anybody said anything negative about the new bolts. It's a garden tractor, this isn't a concourse restoration on a 57 Chevy

Why you are not putting the original paint back on the tractor?


All jokes aside, why WOULDN'T you replace the bolts? Especially ones that hold a load. When I tore down my 126, I had several in which the heads snapped off because it had sat in the rain for the past 20 years. What do you do then? I understand that folks want to "restore" to the best of their ability, but Tim stated this is going to be a working tractor. I wouldn't put it back together with the old hardware, and I would consider it work done in vain to do so, especially since this one is going to be working and not sitting in a garage under a sheet.

But I guess we all have our opinions. Looking forward to seeing this thread progress.
