What you need is a wing screw- a screw with a head on it like a wing nut. You may be able to find something to work at the hardware store. I use a fender washer on the screw to cover the big slot that is in the sidepanel.

The holes are threaded 1/4NC20. Another alternative, you can run a 1" long 1/4" bolt through the holes from the inside of the dash tower (probably have to move the gas tank), tighten them down, and they will be like a stud on the outside. Then you can use a regular wingnut with a washer, or even a regular nut if need be.
